SPORTS AND BRAIN HEALTH

News and stories about concussion/traumatic brain injury (TBI) are everywhere today, leading in some cases to the spread of myths, misinformation, and fear. Recent evidence about the links between concussion and potential long-term brain changes have left athletes, athletic directors, and loved ones with a heightened concern about the risks of participating in high-impact sports.

At Kaizen, we understand the very real concerns about brain health. At the same time, we know that participating in athletics builds self-discipline and confidence, enhances teamwork skills, and strengthens the body. It strengthens the brain, as well, increasing blood flow to the brain and creating new neural connections that improve concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills.

Following the Science

To help athletes and their loved ones make informed decisions, our specialists in neuropsychiatry, neurology, and neuropsychology continuously analyze and participate in the latest scientific studies on traumatic brain injury. We are committed to helping athletes Play Strong and Play Smart by applying the right precautions, on-field protocols, and when needed, post-concussion care.

PLAY SMART, PLAY STRONG is Kaizen’s comprehensive program for concussion/TBI evaluation, management, and treatment. We offer a range of services that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of any organization or athlete.

Our Play Smart, Play Strong Services

Pre-Season Prep

A prepared and informed player is a safer player. We offer concussion education services, use proven methods to establish baseline measurements, help organizations develop and refine standardized on-field protocols, and provide information about follow-up to baseline measurements.

Post-Concussion Treatment

If a player does experience a concussion, we can provide testing to compare players’ current scores to baseline measurements and advise a course of action. If a player is experiencing post-concussion symptoms (also known as Post-Concussive Syndrome) our experts in neuropsychiatry, neurology, neuropsychology, cognitive health nutrition, and vestibular physical therapy offer a range of personalized treatments. Treatment plans may include Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Theta Burst TMS, Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT), a Cognitive Health Nutrition Plan, Sleep Management, or Vestibular Physical Therapy.
